As part of the regular maintenance window, monthly patches will be applied to managed Windows servers. If you want to know the details of the patches or have any questions, please contact the ITS Help Desk.
As part of the ITS NES datacenter network refresh project, routing will be changed for global-scope and local-scope networks used by ITS Enterprise Infrastructure EI-managed or hosted servers in the ITF datacenter. This work affects general server networks.
All other ITF networks (secure, co-managed, customer-managed, storage, or non-EI tenants) are not in scope. For each network change, all servers/services on that network will be inaccessible for up to 5 minutes. Only one network will be changed at a time.
Up to date and scope of change details can be found in the entry for Infrastructure Day found on the RES-IT-Changes calendar. If you are unsure if your servers or services are impacted, please contact your ITS EI primary sysadmin/team.
Multiple Oracle servers will be impacted with the April Infrastructure Day work by EI. Expect brief outages of services running on or utilizing the following Oracle servers: BAGEL, SCONE, TOAST and MELBA. Disruptions are estimated to last 5 minutes, some may extend longer. Existing or new connections to the database may fail such as running an sql job may need to be restarted. Please review your services for any errors or reschedule processes to avoid this window.
Most ITS managed SQL Server systems will be impacted by April 2024 Infrastructure Day work. Expect brief outages of services running on or utilizing SQL Server databases, SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
Disruptions are estimated to last 5 minutes, however, some may extend longer. Existing or new connections to the database may fail as part of this work, i.e. an active SQL job may fail and may require review/restart. It is recommended that you review your services for any errors or reschedule processes to avoid this window.
If you are unsure if your database services will be impacted, please contact the SQL Server DBA team at ITS-SQL-Help@uiowa.edu
The following will be available, but may have disruptions in service, during the maintenance window:
*During the maintenance window, the Canvas Plagiarism Framework will not allow faculty or students to utilize Turnitin assignment submissions and receive similarity reports.
During the maintenance window, Top Hat will be unavailable and visitors to app.tophat.com will see a maintenance page.
There will be maintenance on the data center proxy servers and client connections may notice brief interruptions when traffic is diverted.
ITS will be performing network maintenance on the Cisco AnyConnect VPN service. GlobalProtect VPN will remain available.
On Sunday, May 19, 2024 the shared SQL Server production systems IOWASQLHOST1, IOWASQLHOST2, and IOWASQLHOST3 will be upgraded from SQL Server 2014 to SQL Server 2019. The new SQL Server 2019 systems will have network connectivity restricted to ITS data centers and, on request, static IP addresses on wired campus building machines. These SQL Server databases will no longer be open to campus wireless or VPN.
For more information about this migration, please review SQL Server 2014 Shared Hosting Refresh FAQs or contact the SQL Server DBA team at ITS-SQL-Help@uiowa.edu
On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, ITS will modify the uiowa.edu email security (DMARC) configuration from Quarantine %=50 to Quarantine %=75. More information is available at: https://its.uiowa.edu/support/article/128256.
