Services for Departments
In addition to working with individual faculty on projects, SITAs can provide departmental training and information sessions to groups of faculty, instructors or teaching assistants. Our general information session provides an overview of how the SITA Program functions as well as an overview of some of our latest projects and explorations. We can make the general presentation in as little as ten minutes—making it perfect for faculty or departmental meetings. Contact us to arrange a session in your department.
A Different Kind of IT Service
Pleased to meet you! SITAs can provide an overview of our services and recent projects at departmental faculty and TA meetings. |
In the SITA Program, we work with IT professionals from ITS and elsewhere on campus to meet instructors’ individual teaching goals. That said, we differ from other kinds of support available to departments and instructors by collegiate IT units.
- We provide a combination of training and production assistance—in many cases, we can take care of “start-up” development for our clients.
- We focus exclusively on projects and training in support of the instruction of UI students.
- Our projects are usually related to a specific component of a specific course.
- Although we work with people who do, we do not administer systems or provide IT hardware.
- Because SITAs are currently-enrolled UI students, we can provide a unique perspective on technology from the students' point of view.
- Our services are available free of charge.
We accomplish these goals in a variety of ways:
- Meeting with instructors to plan and implement technology projects within a given class
- Arranging individual or group training on any of the services Instructional Services provides
- Sharing information from other departments’ and instructors’ experiences with teaching and technology
- Providing timely information to instructors about upcoming training and special events in Instructional Services
- Guiding instructors toward other useful resources within ITS, the University’s central IT office
