Rights should only be given to your local IT administrator in extreme situations in which the administrator must carry out a special task to maintain your data.

  1. Open up My Computer and right click on your H:\ drive and go to Properties.
  2. Click on the Security tab.
  3. To add a user or group do one of the following…
    • For Vista, click Edit. This will pop open another box where you can then can click Add to add a user or group.

    • For XP, click Add.

  4. Ensure that "iowa.uiowa.edu" is listed within the "From this location:" field, and then enter in the object name you want to be granted rights to the current folder. For the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences this will normally be "CLAS-Folder-Support".

  5. Click the Check Name button to verify the name that you typed in.
  6. Once the name has been successfully verified, click OK.
  7. Highlight the name you are granting access to and then click the box labeled "Full Control" within the "Allow" column.

Or grant different permission levels by checking the appropriate boxes.
