Purchasing Clickers
Should I purchase clickers or can I expect my students to purchase one?
The University of Iowa has adopted the "bookstore model" for puchasing clickers. In other words, faculty will need to contact the bookstore and let them know they plan on using clickers in their class. They should be prepared to tell the bookstore an approximate number to order and keep on hand for students.
How much do clickers cost students?
The onetime cost is $37.35 and can be used in mutliple classes.

Registering Clickers
Where do students go?
Students will need to register their device ID number on the ResponseCard online with The University Iowa. Student should go to http://icon.uiowa.edu/support/int/tt/clickerid.php to register.
Where do students find their device ID number?
The device ID number is located on the back their ResponseCard clicker under the bar code. Their device ID number will be either a 6 digit alpha-numeric code or a 6 digit numeric code.
Note: Make sure that students remove the used sticker from the back of the clicker. The bookstores are placing these on the clickers they sell, and this is causing some confusion regarding the clicker ID number. They need to use the number found on the Turning Technologies sticker.
The device ID number should be alpha-numeric on my ResponseCard, but it is all numbers?
It is possible to have a ResponseCard ID with numbers only. Be sure their are looking at the number under the barcode on the back of the ResponseCard clicker. The numbers are hexadecimal. The numbers can only be 0-9 and A-F. For example, their number will not contain any O's or I's.
What do the different flashing colors mean on the clickers after students have registered their ResponseCard with ICON?
Are students on the correct channel?
If the ResponseCard clicker is on the wrong channel it will flash orange/yellow for 8 seconds. On the 9th second it will turn red. Try changing the channel on the ResponseCard. You will tell your students what channel to set their ResponseCard to (01-82). To reset a ResponseCard to a different channel, press Go-the new number-Go and then press number 1 to confirm. When students correctly program their ResponseCard, the light will turn green. Students may join the correct channel prior to entering class as well.
