Title: CyberGIS-Jupyter for Reproducible Geospatial Research and Education at Scale

Geospatial research and education have become increasingly computation-, data-, and collaboration-intensive. In this context, cyberGIS has emerged as new-generation geographic information science and systems (GIS), comprising a seamless integration of advanced cyberinfrastructure, GIS, and spatial analysis and modeling capabilities while leading to widespread research advances and broad societal impacts. This workshop introduces recent advances of cyberGIS with a particular focus on CyberGIS-Jupyter that uses Jupyter notebooks as the primary user-interface for conducting reproducible geospatial research and education at scale based on cutting-edge cyberinfrastructure and cyberGIS capabilities. A hands-on tutorial will help workshop attendees learn CyberGIS-Jupyter as an innovative cyberGIS software framework for performing computation- and data-intensive, reproducible, and scalable geospatial analytics.

Dr. Shaowen Wang is a Professor and Head of the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He has served as the founding director of the CyberGIS Center for Advanced Digital and Spatial Studies at UIUC since 2013. His research interests include geographic information science and systems (GIS), advanced cyberinfrastructure and cyberGIS, complex environmental and geospatial problems, computational and data sciences, high-performance and distributred computing and spatial analysis and modeling.
