Cornerstones for Course Design is a series of four interactive webinars uses an integrated approach to backward course design to develop a flexible and inclusive pedagogical plan. Each webinar ends with an optional working session, where participants can start to develop their courses with support and feedback from Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology Center for Teaching staff.

Instructors interested in learning about or refreshing their knowledge of the principles of course design are encouraged to enroll to access the live events and use the additional resources available via ICON.

After completing the series, participants will be able to:

  • Apply integrated backward course design to develop a course.
  • Evaluate the alignment of situational factors, learning goals and objectives, assessment plans, and learning activities in the design of a course.
  • Develop an inclusive and integrated pedagogical plan.

Cornerstones for Course Design offers a foundational view of backward course design. Faculty members who take part in the webinars are encouraged to participate in a future on-campus Course Design Institute.

Cornerstones will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Thursdays in July 2021. We recommend individuals participate in every webinar; however, they may select which webinars they will attend.

Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all University of Iowa–sponsored events. If you are a person with a disability who requires a reasonable accommodation in order to participate in this program, please contact Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology in advance at 319-335-6048 or teaching@uiowa.edu.
