Local-scope addressing is the provisioning of non-routed IP addresses to devices with networking capabilities that do not require global (Internet) access. Some examples might include network printers, web and security cameras, building-automation controllers, and building access devices.
Local-scope addressing also hopes to help address the waning number of globally routable IPv4 addresses by moving those devices that do not need to be accessed globally to local-scope addresses.
