Many Duplicate Icons Appear in Citrix Receiver
Dozens of duplicate icons appear in Citrix Receiver. When clicking the + symbol on the left side to add Favorites, you see many folders called "Virtual Desktop1", "Virtual Desktop2", etc. along with many duplicate icons, as below:
This is due to a bug in Citrix Receiver when an outdated version of Citrix Receiver is used (Receiver 4.2 or older) and has been "activated". Activating Citrix Receiver means you have configured it to display icons outside a web browser. For more information, see this support article.
To fix this issue, you must uninstall the older version of Citrix Receiver, run the Citrix Receiver Cleanup Utility, then install the new version of Citrix Receiver. Instructions below:
- Uninstall Citrix Receiver from the Programs Control Panel applet in Windows. No restart should be necessary.
- Download and run the Citrix Receiver Cleanup Utility from this Citrix support article: http://support.citrix.com/article/CTX137494. This removes errant registry settings that are causing the duplicate icons to appear.
- Install the new version of Citrix Receiver. It may be downloaded from here: https://receiver.citrix.com.
