Limiting TA Privileges to their Specific Section(s)

TA's are given default privilege that allows them to grade students in ALL sections of their course. In courses with more than one section, instructors can change the privileges to TA's can only see/grade students in their assigned section(s).


Adding TA(s) and changing privileges at the same time.

  1. Log in at icon.uiowa.edu and open up your course. 
  2. Click on People in the navigation bar.

 

 

  1. Click +People.
     

 

  1. In the Add People box enter the TA's HawkID; In Role select TA; In Section select the appropriate section.
     


 

  1. Click Next. Make sure to verify privilege settings.

To change privileges for a TA who is already enrolled/Verify Privilege settings

  1. In your course, click on People in the navigation bar.
     


 

  1. Click on the TA's name or click more settings and go to User Details.
     


 

  1. At the bottom of the User Details page click on "this user can only view students in their assigned course section(s)". This can be toggled on and off. NOTE: The Active Privilege is shown in black. The blue hyperlink is the inactive privilege. 
     


How to add a TA to multiple sections, and limit them to grade only students in their sections

  1. In your course, click on People in the navigation bar.


 

  1. Find the TA, click on the gear icon to the far right of their name, and click "Edit Sections."
     


 

  1. Enter section numbers to add the TA to the course sections, repeat as needed.
     


 

  1. Make sure to verify the privileges in order to limit the TA to grading only their section.
