Instructions to remove MacKeeper malware from personally-owned devices. For assistance with removing this malware from a university-owned device, please contact your local IT.

  1. Open Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and terminate processes linked to MacKeeper.

  1. Delete MacKeeper from the Applications folder.

  1. Check System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items for MacKeeper items. Remove from Login Items.
  2. Run a Spotlight search for "MacKeeper" to check for any associated files and if any remove them.
  3. Download and install Malwarebytes, then open and run it using the "Scan" feature. Remove any malware found.

  1. Empty Trash when finished and restart your machine.
