Periodically, ITS will audit SiteNow websites for activity. Websites that have not been logged into for at least 6 months will be considered inactive.

When a website has been determined to be inactive, ITS will ask all active webmasters via their University of Iowa email addresses to do one of two things:

  1. Respond saying the site is no longer needed
  2. Have at least one active webmaster log in to the site, marking it as active.

After one week from the first communication, a follow-up email will be sent. If the site is still inactive one week after the follow-up email is sent, the website will be deactivated. Deactivating a site results in 404 responses for the domain and marks it as subject to future removal without further notice.

Once a website is removed, a copy of the site content cannot be restored.
