Information Technologies (ITS) offers this mailing list service for University-related business of the department or office. The service is provided at no cost to the department. This service is not available to anyone not affiliated with the University. It is not the intention of ITS to be a national mailing list service provider, however, off-campus subscribers are permitted.
All University of Iowa faculty, staff, students, and recognized student organizations are eligible to start new lists with departmental approval.
ITS will create lists, provide support for the list owner, and maintain the list server software (LISTSERV by L-Soft).
The list owner is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of his or her list(s), including adding and deleting subscribers, answering questions from list subscribers, and assisting ITS in resolving problems related to the list(s). The list owner must provide a backup person to carry out these responsibilities during his or her absence.
ITS reserves the right to disable any list for which these responsibilities are not met.
Any list that has not been used for one year (based on the archive contents) and has a bad owner address will be disabled.
Archived Messages will be retained in the archives for a minimum of one year unless special arrangements are made in advance. ITS reserves the right to remove archives from individual lists that use excessive amounts of storage. In that case, the list owner will be contacted and given the opportunity to copy those archive files to other storage media. Rather than sending large attachments, we encourage you to save attachments on the web and send the URL in the e-mail. ITS provides web space for departments, recognized student organizations, faculty, staff, and students and class web space.
List subscribers and list owners must abide by:
