The AI User Group is a welcoming, monthly forum for anyone interested in artificial intelligence, from beginners to experienced practitioners. Each virtual session features presentations on current projects, tips from AI experts on using specific tools, and discussions on diverse AI topics. We conclude with an open roundtable for discussion and questions so participants can share knowledge and learn from one another.
November presenter
We are pleased to introduce Dr. Craig L. Just, Donald E. Bently Professor in Engineering and Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at IIHR—Hydroscience & Engineering, as our November presenter.
What you’ll learn
Participants will explore how anaerobic digestion can convert organic waste into renewable natural gas (RNG), helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve surface water quality. The session will explain, in simple terms, how optical sensors and supervised machine learning can be used to predict waste composition in real time. Applications of this approach at full-scale facilities will be illustrated through photos and real-world examples. Participants will learn how environmental engineers transform waste into valuable resources, generating benefits within the framework of a circular bioeconomy.
