Do you know how to get free technology help at the University of Iowa?

Information Technology Services (ITS) caters to the diverse technology needs of University of Iowa students and employees. Whether you need help with resetting your HawkID password, using a Microsoft 365 application, or printing in an ITC, the ITS Help Desk is ready and available for you.

The ITS Help Desk provides direct support to the UI community through channels including phone, email, live chat, self-service portal, and walk-in (in-person). Visit the ITS Help Desk contact page for details on how to get support.

“We are here to help anyone with access to any technical service on campus,” IT director in Enterprise Services Jamie Matthews says. “Our walk-in area specializes in helping students with their personal devices.”

Enrolled students can bring their personal computers to the ITS Help Desk walk-in area on the second floor of University Capitol Centre (2800 UCC) for a variety of services including general troubleshooting, software installation, virus scan and removal, and reformat and reinstallation of an operating system. The ITS Help Desk does not provide hardware support, but support agents can refer students to a local hardware repair center

The ITS Help Desk walk-in office was recently remodeled and modernized with construction completion in September 2023. New amenities include a button to open the front door, varying heights of the walk-in desk that student staff sit at when helping users, stand-up desks, and a desk that is on wheels and has an adjustable height. The call center was moved to the front for staff efficiency – now support staff can easily go between working on phones, email, and live chat to helping a user in the walk-in office. The improvements make the space more accessible to everyone and more ergonomic for employees.

The ITS Help Desk will be open over the summer semester. Summer hours for walk-in support will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Users can get help over phone, email, and live chat 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
