University of Iowa faculty, staff, and students are invited to enroll in a new hourlong course to learn how artificial intelligence technologies impact the environment and how they can be leveraged to promote sustainable practices.
The course is offered at no charge from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 26 via Microsoft Teams. It will be taught by Stratis Giannakouros, director of the Office of Sustainability and the Environment.
Academics and professionals across a range of industries are grappling with the simultaneous opportunity and threat AI poses for the environment and society, both accelerating resource consumption while offering glimmers of hope about its potential to be a powerful tool for environmental sustainability efforts. The course explores the intersection of AI and environmental sustainability, examining both challenges and opportunities AI presents in this crucial and emerging area of technology.
