Keeping Your Device Up-to-Date
UI-owned and managed devices:
If you are using a UI-managed device, updates to applications and your device's operating system will be applied by ITS on a regular basis. It is important that you restart your computer on a weekly or monthly basis as some operating system updates can only be installed during a restart process.
Personal, home computers:
For Windows PCs, you can click the Windows icon on the bottom left, then click on Settings, and then Update & Security. From here you can click on the 'Check for updates' button. For any installed applications, you will need to determine how each application updates as each application can have different methods to get updates.
For Macs, operating system updates can be accessed through the Software Update or App Store panes in System Preferences. System Preferences can be accessed by clicking on the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your Mac's screen and selecting System Preferences. The App Store can be accessed through the Apple Menu as well.
If you are using a personal device (such as iPhone, iPad, Android device), you will need to check for system updates (usually under Settings then General) and application updates (found within the App store of your device).
We recommend that you also check and maintain the firmware updates on your Wired/Wireless router if possible. You will need to visit the support section of your device's manufacturer's website for instructions on how to update the firmware. If you have a router/modem combo from your Internet Service Provider, they should automatically update it for you.
