When in locations of a building without good cellular coverage, you can enable Wi-Fi calling on your phone to route calls over the Wi-Fi network rather than the cellular network.

Wi-Fi calling is usually turned off by default. Check the settings on your phone to locate the Wi-Fi calling option for your phone. You will usually have to manually set the location where the phone is at for 911 purposes.

Network Services has no control over when a phone will use Wi-Fi calling, that is determined by the phone manufacturer and carrier.

WARNING:

When calling 911, always tell the operator where you are. Your 911 call will go over Wi-Fi only if the cellular network is unavailable. 911 calls made over Wi-Fi may be delayed or unsuccessful; for example, if the 911 system doesn't recognize the address, electrical power is out, or your Wi-Fi connection isn't working. Emergency services will be sent to the address you provided above, so please update it as you change locations.
