Secure Device Service for NIST-regulated Projects
The Secure Device Service is designed to simplify meeting the NIST 800-171 regulations for research project computer security by providing pre-setup, secured laptops or workstations managed by ITS. This simplifies the setup of the research project by only requiring the Principal Investigator (PI) to think about what computers will be a part of the project and who should have access. Once this has been done, the PI will work with their local Extended Technical Support consultant to start the Secure Device Service request.
IT Staff, please visit the Enterprise Client Management (ECM) page on the internal IT Support SharePoint site to find more information about requesting a secure laptop or workstation.
NOTE: Only Windows machines are currently being offered. We will evaluate providing Mac devices in the future. In addition, compliance with NIST 800-171 may mean you also meet compliance requirements for other regulations (e.g. HIPAA, FERPA, grant/contract requirements etc.). Please consult with research-computing@uiowa.edu to ensure this service will meet requirements outside of NIST 800-171.
