Shared Drives (Files@Iowa) is a service offered by ITS that allows users to save their files to a backed up location that is accessible from work or home 24 hours a day 7 days a week. This space is also known as an "L: Drive or U: Drive".  The goal of this service is to provide file storage for departments, units, or colleges.

Each department will be allocated 1 GB of file space per full-time employee (FTE). Departments who would like additional file space may purchase it for $.08/GB/month.

30 day snapshots are online for users to do a "self-restore". Backups of data are kept for 6 months. Contact the ITS Help Desk if you need assistance with a previous version or a restore.

Level III data is allowable with auditing turned on (must be requested).

Access from off campus is available through VPN (UI Anywhere) or Virtual Desktop.

Services affected include:

Home (H:) Drives:  .pst files located on these drives are particularly sensitive to drops in connectivity. Instruct users to close all applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) to their Home or H: Drive on Friday before leaving work.

Shared Departmental Drives:  L:, I:, and U: SFTP jobs and instruments connected to these locations are sensitive to drops in connectivity.  Modify as necessary.

RDSS:  Research Data Storage Service is included in this upgrade.
