Update

Recent planned network updates by IT teams from both the University and a local ISP peer introduced configuration changes that disrupted DNS traffic for VPN users accessing UIowa resources. This issue prevented domain resolution for most uiowa.edu addresses. NES led collaborative troubleshooting efforts with the ISP to identify and resolve the problem, successfully restoring service.

Affected users are recommended to change their local DNS resolution until the issue is resolved.

On UI computers with the GlobalProtect or Cisco AnyConnect VPN clients installed, the below applications are available in Software Center to allow users to configure custom DNS server addresses to Cloudflare or Google:

  • Cloudflare Public DNS Resolver
  • Google Public DNS Resolver

Users with questions can contact local IT or the ITS Help Desk at 319-384-4357.

After the migration to our new EIP DNS system last evening as our external DNS resolvers, we are seeing some DNS resolution issues.

*Iowa websites may not load for users and they will not be able to connect to VPN Services.

Network Engineering Services is looking into the issue.
