Find the right AI tool for your work
Monday, November 3, 2025

The University of Iowa’s AI Tools page and AI Tool Comparison Chart make it easier to choose the right tool for teaching, research, or administrative needs. These resources bring together features, licensing details, and data safeguards in one place. Start with the AI hub and linked guidance to see policies, risk levels, and approved options for campus.

Why this matters at Iowa

Different AI tools handle data differently. Some are licensed for enterprise use with protections through Microsoft 365; others are public services with limited safeguards. Reviewing University resources helps you protect confidential data, stay compliant, and choose tools that deliver results safely.

Where to start

  • Open the AI Tools page for a quick overview of tools available on campus, what each one does, who can access it, and where to find help.

  • Use the AI Tool Comparison Chart to view key features side by side, including sign-in method (enterprise vs. public), data handling, and licensing.

  • Check the AI Guidelines & Use Cases for examples, risk levels, and links to data classification and security practices before entering information into a prompt.

What these pages explain

  • Which tools are approved for University of Iowa use and where they are located on the AI hub.

  • What types of data can be used with each AI tool, with reminders to avoid student records, health information, financial data, or sponsor-restricted content in public tools.

  • How licensing and sign-in affect availability across units, and why enterprise sign-in provides additional protections.

Try it in 60 seconds

  1. Open the AI Tools page and skim the list of supported options.

  1. Open the AI Tool Comparison Chart, then find your role or scenario and note the sign-in and data-handling columns.

  1. Check AI Guidelines & Use Cases to confirm your planned input is appropriate for the tool you chose.
