The AI User Group is a collaborative space for anyone interested in artificial intelligence—whether you are just beginning to explore AI or have years of experience. We recognize that none of us are experts in every aspect of this rapidly evolving field, which makes sharing knowledge and learning from one another essential. Each month, the group meets virtually to discuss a different AI-related topic, ranging from practical demonstrations of tools to presentations on ongoing projects and broader discussions about trends and best practices. Everyone is welcome, and we encourage participation at any level of comfort.
The next session will be held Thursday, October 16, at 9:00 a.m. (virtual). This month’s presentation will be led by Justin Hess, Senior Systems Administrator for the College of Pharmacy. Justin will discuss how he used AI tools for data analysis and visualization to support software contract renewal decisions. The session will demonstrate how an AI-based approach was applied to evaluate multiple contract scenarios, model potential outcomes, and create interactive dashboards to assist with decision-making. Key considerations for data security and practical tips for working with AI tools will also be addressed. Following the presentation, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion.
Registration is available in the My Training portal in self-service.
If you require a reasonable accommodation to participate, please contact the AI Support Team at ITS-AISupportTeam@uiowa.edu in advance.
Whether you’re attending for the first time or returning, the AI User Group is an easy way to stay connected to Iowa’s growing AI community. Each discussion surfaces real examples from colleagues, offering practical ideas you can adapt in your own teaching, research, or administrative work.
Future sessions will continue to explore a wide range of AI topics, offering opportunities to learn, share, and collaborate. The AI User Group values input from its members and welcomes suggestions for future topics. If you have an idea for a subject you would like to see covered—or if you are interested in sharing your own work—please contact the AI Support Team.
