AI Gateway is the University of Iowa's university-managed workspace for exploring multiple AI models and building custom AI agents. Powered by Cloudforce NebulaONE, it supports research, document analysis, writing and approved project workflows.

Request access first: Complete the AI Exploration | Gateway Token Program workflow. Signing in alone does not grant access; approval and provisioning must be complete before you can use AI Gateway.

What can I do with AI Gateway?

• Choose from the AI models enabled in the university workspace and compare their responses.
• Draft, summarize and analyze approved documents and information.
• Create custom agents using instructions and approved reference materials.
• Explore how AI can support research and administrative workflows.

Models and features may change as they are reviewed and enabled. Access to a model in Gateway does not include a separate subscription to the provider's standalone applications.

Who can apply for P3-funded access?

The approved P3 eligibility categories are:

• Faculty: tenured, tenure-track, clinical-track, instructional-track and visiting.
• Merit and Professional and Scientific staff with appointments of 50% or greater.
• Postdoctoral scholars.
• Graduate students sponsored by a faculty advisor.

P3 applicants certify eligibility at intake. A submitter may certify eligibility for the recipients listed in a group request. Sponsored graduate recipients must be identified with their faculty advisor. P3 participants agree to provide feedback at six months and one year.

Department-funded requests follow the established departmental purchasing and approval process. The P3 eligibility certification applies to the P3 funding route.

Cost and monthly allowance

Standard access costs $300 per person annually, billed upfront, and provides a $25 monthly usage allowance. The annual payment does not make $300 available to spend at once. Unused monthly allowance does not carry forward.

Approved P3 funding or departmental funding may cover access. Each recipient receives an individual account and allowance; a group request is not a shared login or pooled budget. Complete the AI Exploration | Gateway Token Program workflow to request access. Wait until approval and provisioning are complete before signing in. Coding-focused P3 requests are directed toward Claude. If you need Gateway for a related multi-model or API use case, contact the team to discuss the request.

Data and responsible use

Use only data approved for AI Gateway and follow university data-classification requirements, applicable sponsor and data-use restrictions, and permissions for connected services. These requirements apply to prompts, uploaded files and agent reference materials. Review AI-generated information for accuracy before using or sharing it.
