Purpose and scope
Digital Signage powers TV displays located throughout various colleges and patient care locations. These displays are used to share educational and informational communications with both internal and external audiences, including:
- Offstage (Staff/Faculty): Announcements, training updates, policy reminders, event notices.
- Onstage (Visitors/Patients/Students): Marketing content, general health education, public service messages, campus news.
Digital Signage is designed to support non-sensitive content only. No Protected Health Information (PHI) should be displayed on these screens to ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations*.
*Exceptions would be if a patient has granted authorization and has a consent form on file. (please contact compliance office for further guidance)
Content guidelines
- Content must be appropriate for public or semi-public viewing.
- Do not include patient names, medical records, or any identifiable health information.
- All submissions should be reviewed for clarity, relevance, branding, and compliance before being published.

If your use case involves showing patient-related data—such as:
- Clinic / Operating Room (OR) schedules
- Patient queue statuses
- Clinical workflow dashboards
- Other real-time patient data
These displays must be powered directly from EPIC or other approved clinical systems to ensure data integrity and HIPAA compliance.
