Note: To access these drives from off-campus, you must be connected to the VPN client using the directions on this page: https://its.uiowa.edu/support/article/115421

Access control for the share is done with Active Directory groups. File and directory permissions of the root level share are managed by ITS-Research Services. Share owners can view and modify the users who are members of their share groups using the Access Management site. Additional support documents are available for viewing and modifying group members and delegating management of groups.

If you are encountering problems mounting your LSS share, contact research-computing@uiowa.edu for assistance.

NOTE: If you receive a message like 'Access to your account on the server has been denied. Contact your system administrator for more information.', This message is typically encountered if there was a typo in your password, an old/incorrect password was entered, or your HawkID account has been locked because of too many bad login attempts (this is common after changing your HawkID password).

To resolve this issue:

  1. Navigate to https://hawkid.uiowa.edu/ and use the "Unlock Your Account" tool to unlock your HawkID account.
  2. Open the application "Keychain Access" and check for the name of the LSS share. If this exists, delete it (select the line and push the Delete key on your keyboard, or right-click on the item and select "Delete").
  3. Restart your computer and follow the instructions above to map the drive again.

Mapping LSS Drive on Unix/Linux

This varies by distribution but is generally similar to these instructions:

The server and path to your share were provided when it was configured, generally they are of the format "<specific hostname>.hpc.uiowa.edu/<name of your share>"
All methods will require you to authenticate with your HawkID and associated password.

Once you have mounted the share it will appear as a drive or folder in applications.
