How do I log in to a protected resource using Shibboleth?

Usually when you try to access a Shibboleth-protected website that is outside the University, you will be directed to a "Where are You From" or "WAYF" page. This page will ask you to pick your institution (and sometimes federation), and then redirect you to the University of Iowa's Shibboleth login page.

  • If you are asked to pick the federation you are a member of, select InCommon.
  • If you are asked to pick the institution you are from, select University of Iowa.

When you see the University's Shibboleth login page (see example below), enter your HawkID and HawkID password. Then click “Login.” After a short period of time, you should be directed back to the protected web resource.

If you see a message that says “Invalid login” you may have mistyped your HawkID or HawkID password, or your password may have expired. Contact the ITS Help Desk at 384-4357 (4-HELP) for assistance.
