ITS will implement a daily sending limit for student email accounts on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. This first phase will focus on students without current employee roles and will be followed by another phase to include student employees. The final goal is expansion to all accounts which will include faculty and staff. The primary driver behind this change is to limit the spread of phishing attacks when an account is compromised. When a bad actor gains access to a university account, they typically move quickly to send large volumes of phishing emails to other members of our community. By capping the number of messages that can be sent per 24-hour period, we can significantly contain the affected radius of a compromised account and reduce the risk to others.
