ITS will implement a daily sending limit for Faculty, Staff, and Shared email accounts on Thursday, August 6, 2026. This will be the final implementation phase of this email security enhancement. 

The primary driver behind this change is to limit the spread of phishing attacks when an account is compromised. When a bad actor gains access to a university account, they typically move quickly to send large volumes of phishing emails to other members of our community. By capping the number of messages that can be sent per 24-hour period, we can significantly contain the affected radius of a compromised account and reduce the risk to others.
