NOTES:

  • If you are a Faculty or Staff member, please contact the Extended Technical Support person for your department or location.
  • To request rules for the campus datacenter firewalls, please contact the designated system administrator for your system or application.

1. Otherwise, in your request you will need to provide the following information for each rule.

  • Source IP or subnet (Most likely your device(s))
  • Destination IP or subnet (The device(s) you wish to communicate with ),
  • Destination port  (example 80 for http)
  • Protocol (TCP, UDP or both)
  • Action (permit or deny, probably permit)

NOTE: You will need to review your device or application documentation to find out what destination ports and protocols that need to be permitted.

2. For documentation purposes firewall rules MUST be requested through a service center request. Search for "Firewall" and select "Firewall Policy Change or Question".

3. Fill out the table in the request with the information you gathered in Step 1.

4. Submit your request.

The expected turnaround time is determined by priority level in the service request.

  • P3 (Normal) – 3 days
  • P2 (Important) – 2 days
  • P1 (Emergency) – same day, contact the ITS help desk to reach firewall engineers to discuss the reasoning for emergency change.

If there are any issues with your request someone will reach out to you.
