The current Digital Signage platform at (https://signage.uiowa.edu/), will reach end-of-life on October 31, 2025. A new platform, Digital Signage v2 (https://signage.sites.uiowa.edu), is being developed using the SiteNow service and has recently launched in order to allow manual migration ahead of the upcoming deadline. Digital Signage v2 is being designed from the ground up to be better suited to the needs of its customers and the resources of the team that manages it.

What is changing

  • Digital Signage v2 will use a new URL: https://signage.sites.uiowa.edu
  • Migration is manual. Sign owners are responsible for moving over any content needed for initial launch and downloading any other material they wish to retain for future use.
  • Some features from the current platform will not be available on the new platform. Other features are still in development and might not be immediately available.

Action required

The UI Health Care Marketing & Communications team has contacted all admins of UI Health Care / CCOM signs about migrating and the steps to take. If you are currently a UI Health Care / CCOM admin and did not receive this email, then your name was not a part of the records that were used to identify contacts. Please reach out to Maxwell-freund@uiowa.edu to rectify this issue and gain access to your group and sign on the new system.

To begin transition to the new website, a primary contact from your existing signage group(s) should contact its-web@uiowa.edu with:

Once access is granted, they will be able to:

  • Add additional group members
  • Populate slide and sign content

When ready to switch a sign over, send us:

  • The current sign URL (e.g. https://signage.uiowa.edu/...)
  • The signage device ID (e.g. DDS-XXX-XXX)
  • The new sign URL (e.g. https://signage.sites.uiowa.edu/sign/...)

Deadline

On October 31, 2025, https://signage.uiowa.edu will be shut down. Any display device still pointing to the old URL will no longer display signage content. 

Can I dismiss the message on my sign while I work on transitioning?

Yes. For each sign, edit the sign and click the "Dismiss end of life message on sign" checkbox.

What will happen to my existing v1 sign after the end of life date?

On October 31, 2025,  the v1 Digital Signage site will be shut down. Any displays pointing at https://signage.uiowa.edu/ will no longer work.

How do I update my hardware device to point to Digital Signage v2?

Once you gain access to signage.sites.uiowa.edu and you have moved a sign over (or created a new sign), contact us at its-web@uiowa.edu with the following and we will re-point any managed signage device or help you coordinated with on-site assistance.

Will Digital Signage v2 continue to be available for external customers?

No. Digital Signage v2 will not be available to external customers. Existing external customers of the v1 Digital Signage product should immediately begin looking for a replacement option if they still need a comparable service.

Will the bus arrivals functionality be made available?

The three transit agencies have or plan to drop support for the existing data feeds we consume for displaying bus arrival information on Digital Signage. We have reached out to CAMBUS to see if there is an alternative way of getting this information and plan to connect with Iowa City and Coralville as well.
