The current Digital Signage product (https://signage.uiowa.edu/) is built on Drupal 7, which reached it end of life (EOL) on January 8, 2025. A new Digital Signage product, Digital Signage v2, is being built using the current SiteNow platform. The v1 Digital Signage product will reach its own end of life on October 31, 2025.

Digital Signage v2 will be moving to a new URL, which is not yet active. The v2 site will be launched before the v1 site's EOL to allow for signs to be manually migrated from v1 to v2. The migration of signs will be the responsibility of sign owners. Any signage displays that point to v1 signs will stop displaying those signs when the v1 site is shut down.

Digital Signage v2 is being designed from the ground up to be better suited to the needs of its customers and the resources of the team that manages it. Some features from the v1 service will not be included in the v2 service.

The OSC Web Team will be allowing early access for Digital Signage customers that are interested in getting an early start on migrating their signs and/or providing feedback on the future of Digital Signage v2. If you are interested in early access, please contact us at its-web@uiowa.edu.

What will happen to my existing v1 sign after the end of life date?

On October 31, 2025,  the v1 Digital Signage site will be shut down. Any displays pointing at https://signage.uiowa.edu/ will no longer work.

How do I update my hardware device to point to Digital Signage v2?

Digital Signage v2 is not yet available. Once the new URL has been set up, you have moved a sign over (or created a new sign) and you want to point a hardware device to the new sign, you can coordinate that with the ITS Help Desk.

Will Digital Signage v2 continue to be available for external customers?

No. Digital Signage v2 will not be available to external customers. Existing external customers of the v1 Digital Signage product should immediately begin looking for a replacement option if they still need a comparable service.
