The University of Iowa offers email accounts for students and faculty and staff.

Email aliases (e.g., jane-doe@uiowa.edu) are created automatically when an employee's HR paperwork is processed or when a student is admitted to the University of Iowa.   NOTE:  your email alias will not deliver anywhere until you request an Office 365 account or set your alias to route to an external email account (e.g., gmail).  To request an Office 365 account, please see the sections below.

When sharing your email address with others, we strongly encourage you to use the alias (first-last@uiowa.edu)  (NOT your routing email address).  For more information see Alias and Routing Email Address.

Questions?  For more information about opening an email account, contact the ITS Help Desk, 2800 UCC, 384-4357, its-helpdesk@uiowa.edu.

Faculty and staff may obtain email accounts for home and/or office use. In either case, apply for an email account here.

Students should go to MyUI to request a university email account. (MyUI > Student Information > My Email)

If you currently read your mail on another mail server, this is what will happen:

  1. Your Office 365 account will be created.

  2. Your mail routing will be changed to route to your Office 365 email account.
