Follow the below guides on how to update your name, HawkID, or change your University of Iowa email alias. Changes to HealthcareIDs or to Healthcare domain email addresses need to be made with the HCIS Help Desk.

 

All current and former students

  • May request a name change by using the Name Change Form located on the Office of the Registrar's website.
  • For questions on the name change process, please reach out to the Office of the Registrar by phone or email.
     

Faculty and Staff

Note: Faculty and staff who are former students of the University of Iowa should use the Student instructions above.

  1. Login to Employee Self Service using your HawkID and password. 
  2. Navigate to the My Self Service section. Under the Personal Information, choose Name Change.
  3. Fill out the fields and attach the required documents to the form.
    • For questions regarding the form or the status of your request, please reach out to Payroll Services for more information.

Students

  1. Login to MyUI using your HawkID and password.
  2. Navigate to the Student Information section. Under Personal Information, please choose Name and Pronouns.
  3. Update the fields to your preferences.
     

Faculty and Staff

  1. Login to Employee Self Service using your HawkID and password. 
  2. Navigate to the My Self Service section. Under the Personal Information, please choose Name and Pronouns.
  3. Update fields within this section with your preferences

Your university email alias is the address you should always use when sharing your email address. The alias address is in the format of firstname-lastname@uiowa.edu, although middle initials or numbers may be added if an alias is already in use. Refer to this guide for more information on what an email alias is.

Important Note: Changes to an email alias must match either your legal or preferred name on file with the university. If your name has recently changed, follow the name change guides in the above sections before submitting your request to update your email alias.

Students, Faculty, and Staff

  1. Fill out and submit a Request to Change Email Alias form.
  2. The Help Desk will contact you with options if the alias you have requested is not available. 

Note: If you have a Healthcare account, these changes may take up to 24 hours to take effect.

Important Note: Changes to HawkIDs must match either your legal or preferred name on file with the university. Instructions for completing either process can be found in the above FAQs.

Students, Faculty, and Staff

  • Contact the ITS Help Desk either via phone or from your University of Iowa email account.
  • HawkIDs may only contain variations of your first and last name or initials. The ITS Help Desk can provide options for HawkIDs that are available to use and that meet university naming standards.
