For best results, we recommend that you connect your iOS and Android Devices to the Outlook App.  Below are alternative options, but not recommended.

Exchange Remote Wipe feature applies to most of the following devices

NOTE: We recommend that you have first installed the latest OS updates for your mobile device. To check for software updates on an Android or iOS follow these steps. (Note: steps may vary per device).

For iOS:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to 'General'
  3. Go to 'Software Update'

  4. This page will prompt you to update your software or it will tell you that you are up to date and which version you currently are running.

For Android:

  1. ​Open Settings
  2. Scroll down to 'About phone' or 'About device' and tap it
  3. Towards the top, tap 'System Update' or 'Software Update'
  4. Tap 'Scan for new updates'   
  5. Download and install any necessary updates

NOTE:  These instructions work for a shared departmental account also - use the shared account id and password where the instructions ask for username and password.

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Passwords & Accounts
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Tap Exchange 
  5. In the Email Address field, type your Hawkid@uiowa.edu.
  6. Enter a description for your account (e.g., Office 365).
  7. Tap Next.
  8. When prompted, tap Sign In
  9. Enter your HawkID password in the Password field.
  10. Tap Log In.
    Note: If you have Two-Step Login with Duo Security, you will be prompted to complete login using Duo.
  11. Choose which items (email, calendar, contacts, etc.) you want to sync between your account and your iOS device.
  12. Tap Save.

 

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Mail (or Mail, Accounts, Calendars depending on your iOS version)
  3. Tap Accounts (iOS 10.x only)
  4. Tap Add Account.
  5. Tap Exchange (or Microsoft Exchange depending on your iOS version)
  6. Enter your email address (jane-doe@uiowa.edu) in the Email address field.
  7. Enter your HawkID password in the Password field.
  8. Enter a description for your account (e.g., Office 365).
  9. Tap Next.
  10. When prompted, tap "Enter settings manually"
  11. Type the server name: outlook.office365.com
  12. Leave the domain field blank.
  13. Enter your HawkID@uiowa.edu in the username field.
  14. Enter your HawkID password.
  15. Tap Next.
  16. Choose which items (email, calendar, contacts, etc.) you want to sync between your account and your iOS device. Tap Save.

Android 9.x

  1. Choose Settings and Add Account
  2. Type your Hawkid@uiowa.edu in the username field
  3. Tap Manual
  4. Tap Exchange
  5. Type your Hawkid password
  6. If you are asked to save your password, tap Save
  7. If you are prompted to allow redirect, tap OK.
  8. If you are prompted for a certificate, tap Yes
  9. In the Server field, type outlook.office365.com
  10. Tap Activate.
  11. Tap Next
  12. If you are prompted to “Allow to access calendar” tap Yes

The account will now be setup – you can open the Google app and find your account

 

Android 8.x 

  1. Tap the Email icon.
  2. Tap Settings (gear icon)
  3. Tap Add Account.
  4. Select Exchange.
  5. In the Email Address field, type your Hawkid@uiowa.edu
  6. In the Password field, type your Hawkid password.
  7. Tap Sign in.
  8. At the "Apply security settings?" prompt, tap Apply
  9. Tap Done
  10. Tap Done to finish setting up the account. 

Android 5.0 and higher (Lollipop) 

  1. Select Settings from the Applications menu.
  2. Navigate to Accounts and select Add Account.
  3. Select Microsoft Exchange Active Sync
  4. Enter your email address firstname-lastname@uiowa.edu and HawkID password.
  5. Click Next. If get the following message window “Unable to set up account. Unable to connect to server.  Click OK
  6. Enter Domain\Username:  HawkID@uiowa.edu 
  7. Note: Some devices may need to use:  iowa\hawkid@uiowa.edu OR Domain: iowa  Username: hawkid@uiowa.edu  Also, some devices may show Port #:  443
  8. Enter server:   outlook.office365.com
  9. Confirm that Use secure connection (SSL) is checked and Accept all SSL certificates
  10. Click Next. You will see the message “Retrieving account information” or "Checking incoming server settings."
  11. You will receive a message: Server outlook.office365.com must be able to remotely control some security features on your device.  Continue?  Click OK.
  12. Select your desired account options and click Next.
  13. Give the account a name to distinguish it from other accounts on your device.
  14. Click DONE.

Android 4.1 or higher

  1. Select Settings from the Applications menu.
  2. Navigate to Accounts and select Add Account.
  3. Select Corporate or Microsoft Exchange Active Sync depending on Android phone
  4. Enter your email address firstname-lastname@uiowa.edu and HawkID password.
  5. Click Next. Click Cancel immediately while message says “Retrieving account information.” If get the following message window “Couldn’t finish. Username or password incorrect” then click “Edit details”, click Next and immediately click Cancel.
  6. Enter Domain\Username:  HawkID@uiowa.edu 
  7. Note: Some older devices may need to use: iowa\hawkid@uiowa.edu
  8. Enter server:   outlook.office365.com
  9. Confirm that Use secure connection (SSL) is checked and Accept all SSL certificates
  10. Click Next. You will see the message “Retrieving account information” or "Checking incoming server settings."
  11. You will receive a message: The server outlook.office365.com requires that you allow it to remotely control some security features of your Android device.  Click OK.
  12. Select your desired account options and click Next.
  13. Give the account a name to distinguish it from other accounts on your device.
  1. Open Settings
  2. Select Accounts
  3. Select Add Account at the bottom of screen
  4. Select Advanced at the bottom of screen
  5. Select Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
  6. Enter the following for the Add Account page:
  7. Description: A name for this email account.  This is what will display in the HUB.
  8. Domain: leave this field blank
  9. Username: your HawkID follow by @uiowa.edu (e.g. jdoe@uiowa.edu)
  10. Email Address:  your email alias (e.g. jane-doe@uiowa.edu)
  11. Password: your HawkID password
  12. Server Address:  outlook.office365.com
  13. Sync Timeframe: set to number of days you would like to keep on your Blackberry.
  14. Click Next
  15. Choose items to Sync:
  16. Set Sync Email, Sync Contacts, Sync Calendar and Sync Tasks to On or Off as desired.
  17. Set Sync Memos = Off *** (10.1.xxxx and lower)
    (*** there is a bug in OS 10.0.xxxx-10.1.xxxx that may cause your account to not sync correctly if Memos is on. This appears to be fixed for OS 10.2.xxxx and up)
  18. Select Done

 You should now see your account listed in the BlackBerry Hub.

Note: Before you can configure an Office 365 email account on the Surface Mail App, you will need to configure a Microsoft Account on the Mail App. If you do not have a Microsoft Account created, you can create one at the following link: https://signup.live.com/signup.aspx?lic=1.Once you have one created, click on the Mail App in the tiled apps menu of your Surface. You will be prompted to enter in your Microsoft Account information. Once you have logged in, you can add an Outlook account to Configure Office 365 on the Surface.

  1. Swipe the right on the left side of the screen and click on the settings menu.
  2. Click on Accounts and select Add an account.
  3. Select Outlook.
  4. Enter HawkID@uiowa.edu for the email address and your HawkID password for password.
  5. Click on Show more details.
  6. Enter outlook.office365.com for the Server address.
  7. Enter Iowa for the Domain.
  8. Enter HawkID@uiowa.edu for the Username.
  9. Click connect.

It may take a few minutes to add the account.

  1. On Start, Swipe left to the App list, select Settings, and then select email + accounts
  2. Select add an account > Outlook
  3. Enter your email address and password, and then select Sign in. Windows phone will try to set up your email account automatically. If setup completes successfully, skip to step 8
  4. If you see a message "Check your information and try again. You may have mistyped your password.", verify that you entered the correct email address and password. At this stage, you don't need to specify any values for User name and Domain. Select Sign in. If setup completes successfully, skip to step 8.
  5. If your email account can't be set up automatically, you'll see the message "We couldn't find your settings". In this case, select advanced. You will need to enter the following information:

Email address, this is your full email access. For example: firstname-lastname@uiowa.edu

Password: This is your hawkID password

Username: Hawkid@uiowa.edu

Domain: Iowa

Server: Use outlook.office365.com for your server name.

  1. Select the "Server requires encrypted (SSL) connection box.
  2. Select Sign In
  3. Select OK if Exchange ActiveSync asks you to enforce policies or set a password.
  4. You'll be presented with an option to download the mobile Lync client for IM, presence, and conferencing. If you only want to set up your Hawkmail, uncheck this option, then tap done. 
  1. Go to your Settings option 
  2. Tap on Email+ Account
  3. Tap Add an Account
  4. Tap on Exchange
  5. Enter your email address in the email field
  6. Enter your Hawk ID password in the password field
  7. Choose sign in
  8. Enter your HawkID@uiowa.edu into the user name field
  9. If the domain does not automatically appear, enter outlook.office365.com in the domain.
