Effective February 22, 2022, basic authentication will be turned off for ActiveSync, IMAP and POP.  We recommend using the Microsoft Outlook mobile app, but you can still use the default Mail apps for iOS and Android.  However, you must delete your account and re-add it in order to use modern authentication and limited support is provided.

We recommend that you connect your iOS and Android Devices to the Outlook App.  Below are alternative options, but are NOT recommended and have limited support.

As of April 20, 2020, basic authentication is turned off for NEW Office 365 accounts. You will need to use DUO to connect to the account and you may need to use a different application (Outlook app is the recommended app) or upgrade your phone to a newer OS.

Exchange Remote Wipe feature applies to most of the following devices

    NOTE:  If you need to remove your account from an app below, follow the steps for your device, but instead of choosing to Add an account, select your account and Remove it. Removing the account will also remove your account from the Calendar, Contacts, and Notes apps if they were added when the account was setup.

     

    NOTE: We recommend that you have first installed the latest OS updates for your mobile device. To check for software updates on an Android or iOS follow the steps below. (Note: steps may vary per device).

    For iOS:

    1. Open Settings
    2. Go to 'General'
    3. Go to 'Software Update'

    4. This page will prompt you to update your software or it will tell you that you are up to date and which version you currently are running.

    For Android:

    1. ​Open Settings
    2. Scroll down to 'About phone' or 'About device' and tap it
    3. Towards the top, tap 'System Update' or 'Software Update'
    4. Tap 'Scan for new updates'   
    5. Download and install any necessary updates
    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Tap Mail
    3. Tap Accounts
    4. Tap Add Account.
    5. Tap Microsoft Exchange 
    6. In the Email Address field, type your HawkID@uiowa.edu.
    7. Enter a description for your account (e.g., Office 365).
    8. Tap Next.
    9. When prompted, tap Sign In
    10. Enter your HawkID password in the Password field.
    11. Tap Log In. 
    12. You will be prompted to complete the login using DUO     
    13. If you are prompted about "are you trying to sign in with Apple...." choose Yes.
    14. Choose which items (email, calendar, contacts, etc.) you want to sync between your account and your iOS device.
    15. Tap Save.
    1. Tap Settings.
    2. Tap Passwords & Accounts
    3. Tap Add Account.
    4. Tap Microsoft Exchange 
    5. In the Email Address field, type your HawkID@uiowa.edu.
    6. Enter a description for your account (e.g., Office 365).
    7. Tap Next.
    8. When prompted, tap Sign In
    9. Enter your HawkID password in the Password field.
    10. Tap Log In. 
    11. You will be prompted to complete the login using DUO     
    12. If you are prompted about "are you trying to sign in with Apple...." choose Yes.
    13. Choose which items (email, calendar, contacts, etc.) you want to sync between your account and your iOS device.
    14. Tap Save.

    11. Type the server name: outlook.office365.com
    12. Leave the domain field blank.
    13. Enter your HawkID@uiowa.edu in the username field.
    14. Enter your HawkID password.
    15. Tap Next.
    16. Choose which items (email, calendar, contacts, etc.) you want to sync between your account and your iOS device. Tap Save.

    9.  If you have Two-Step Login with Duo Security, you will be prompted to complete login using Duo.
    10. If prompted with "Email needs access to this phone" prompt, tap Review Permissions
    11. If prompted with "Phone Administrator" prompt, tap Activate
    12. When prompted with "Your account is ready to go", tap Done.

    Android 9.x

    1. Choose Settings and Add Account
    2. Type your HawkID@uiowa.edu in the username field
    3. Tap Manual
    4. Tap Exchange
    5. Type your HawkID password
    6. If you are asked to save your password, tap Save
    7. If you are prompted to allow redirect, tap OK.
    8. If you are prompted for a certificate, tap Yes
    9. In the Server field, type outlook.office365.com
    10. Tap Activate.
    11. Tap Next
    12. If you are prompted to “Allow to access calendar” tap Yes

    The account will now be setup – you can open the Google app and find your account

     

    Android 8.x 

    1. Tap the Email icon.
    2. Tap Settings (gear icon)
    3. Tap Add Account.
    4. Select Exchange.
    5. In the Email Address field, type your HawkID@uiowa.edu
    6. In the Password field, type your HawkID password.
    7. Tap Sign in.
    8. At the "Apply security settings?" prompt, tap Apply
    9. Tap Done
    10. Tap Done to finish setting up the account.
