As part of the University of Iowa's adoption of Canvas as the new LMS that powers ICON, the previous version of ICON (Desire2Learn, aka D2L) will be phased out over the rest of this year.
On July 1st 2017, the previous version of ICON (D2L) will switch to read-only mode. This means instructors and students will still be able to view old courses in ICON (D2L), but will no longer be able to make changes, such as uploading new files, taking quizzes, or creating new discussion forums.
Two years’ worth of courses have been moved from ICON (D2L) to Canvas. If you would like a course older than two years moved to Canvas, please fill out the request form athttps://workflow.uiowa.edu/form/ongoingcoursemigration. Note that while most parts of your ICON (D2L) course will transfer fine, we recommend reviewing the course in Canvas to be sure things are the way you want them. See https://its.uiowa.edu/support/article/104687 for more details on reviewing a course that was moved between systems.
ICON (D2L) will no longer be available on January 1st 2018. The ICON Team is building an ICON Archive system for old courses in ICON (D2L), which will be available near the end of the fall 2017 semester. The ICON Archive system will include copies of courses, instructor, and student data, and can be accessed by instructors who wish to refer to previous online course work their students have completed. More information about the ICON Archive system will be available as the system is rolled out.
