In recent months, OneIT Leaders and Associate Vice President & CIO Steve Fleagle have developed concepts for the future state of IT on the UI campus. Everyone will have to work together to realize that future and it will entail changes big and small. Today Fleagle announced two initial steps toward achieving the future state the OneIT Leaders have described.

Falsetti Named Sr. Enterprise Architect and Director of IT Infrastructure

Fleagle has made permanent Guy Falsetti’s role as the leader of the ITS Enterprise Infrastructure workgroups and added formal responsibility for Enterprise IT Architecture as it relates to our campus infrastructure.

Fleagle noted, "Guy has done a fantastic job in an interim role since Rex Pruess retired about 10 months ago, and it is time to remove the interim from his title."

Beginning immediately Falsetti's working title is Sr. Enterprise Architect and Director of IT Infrastructure. Falsetti will maintain leadership over the IT Facilities, IT Physical Infrastructure, Network Services, Server Support Infrastructure, and Server Support Applications workgroups that he has had on an interim basis, and begin to form a team that will work with him on the Sr. Enterprise Architect responsibilities.

Falsetti will focus efforts on some critical initiatives, including Network 2.0: Cyber Defense, Network 2.0: Data Center, Monitoring, Dev/Ops and Training, and completing OneIT projects.

Merger of Enterprise Services & Enterprise Infrastructure Moves Forward

Included in the future state concepts shared last week is an idea to merge ITS Enterprise Services (ES) and Enterprise Infrastructure (EI). We have decided to proceed with this change, unifying teams that provide the bulk of commodity IT services for campus.

EI and ES have a history of close and successful collaboration on service development and delivery; the staff in these areas have complementary skills and expertise. During the OneIT future state discussions, we identified a desire to elevate the voice of our customers and strive for “no gap” delivery of IT services. Strengthening the bond of our IT service and infrastructure teams supports those goals.

The combined departments will report to Tim Evans, and more details will be shared soon. Fleagle has been working closely with Evans and Falsetti, and is enthusiastic about the ideas that are coming together.

There is not a new name selected for this new group just yet, but the plan is to engage members of EI and ES to help choose one.

Fleagle noted that these changes are incremental and that staff should expect that we will proceed in this way as we move forward.

"If we are to be agile and adaptive, we will need to change organizationally as well," he said. "As long as we are all committed to providing the best IT we can for the campus, being transparent and inclusive, and supporting one another, I remain very excited for what we can accomplish."

The OneIT Program Office is working to reschedule the Town Hall for IT Professionals and listening posts for the broader campus in April. Dates and times will be announced as soon as they are available.
